I AM LEGEND (2007), film review
English days on Click! by students of 4F. That’s their experience:
“On Friday afternoon we have watched films in English with English subtitles, so as not to over-hang the last hours of the day. 
In the next lessons we usually discussed about the films watched in the classroom, highlighting the parts that we liked.
Noticing an interest in the subject, the teacher Silvia Avanzolini proposed us to write a review on a film, following the example of the analysis we did on the films watched in class.
The students who took part in this project are: Stefano Valenti, Mirko Zapponi, Andrea Conti, Mirco Brambilla, Emanuel Ragusi and Alessandro Matera of the class 4F.”
Emanuel Ragusi and Alessandro Matera declare: “We chose “I Am Legend” because for us it is a film with a simple plot but well told. We were particularly impressed by the choice of special effects.”
The film is set mainly in a post apocalyptic New York, the protagonist’s name is Robert Neville (Will Smith). Robert lives in a now abandoned NY, his purpose is to find a cure for the people who were transformed into “zombie” by another supposed cure for cancer. After the development of a serum Robert spends his time in NY trying to catch zombies every day to test the serum on them. Staying alone for a long time he starts to become crazy, in fact in a part of the film Robert tries to kill himself but a woman saves his life. This episode will give Robert the strength to go back to working with the serum, saving humanity.
Comments:
The protagonist’s interpretation by Will Smith in the film is fantastic, especially during the period when Robert is alone and his loneliness is destroying his mental sanity and so he starts to doubt about everything and thinks of giving up everything he has done before.
We will see Will Smith or Robert having perpetual frustrating moments during the film, where he will sadly remember his strong affective attachment to his family and how he had to break up with it. These moments are very well narrated, and show the mental condition of Robert Neville.
Techincal sector:
The film is directed by Francis Lawrence who also made Hunger Games series. The special effects are amazing in fact the initial budget of the film was about 159 millions US dollars. In our opinion the soundtrack is incredible, it made me feel completely involved in the film. Indeed that film has won also a World Soundtrack Award.
In the end…
The film overall was really good, a simple story with a superb narrative featured by amazing special effects and awesome landscapes; but in the film the causes of the disease named Krippin Virus are not well explained, and personally this is an important lack of the narrative.
